A native Atlantan, Willis worked in the corporate world as vice president of marketing for RaceTrac Petroleum, Inc. Motivated by the desire to own his own business and a long-standing interest in architecture and remodeling, Willis decided to launch John Willis Homes in 1992. Self-described as "green and enthusiastic," Willis built six homes his first year in business and found the career change very rewarding. Today, John Willis Homes builds approximately 250 homes annually located throughout Metro Atlanta, including Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton, Forsyth and Gwinnett Counties, as well as in Athens and Northwest Florida. Willis's passion for homebuilding and compassion for others was recognized by the HBA when they named him the 2005 Builder of the Year. This award recognizes a Certified Professional Home Builder member of the HBA wh o has demonstrated a commitment to professional excellence and to furthering the goals and mission of the association through volunteer efforts within the association and the housing industry, and through community and charitable programs. Willis works with numerous charitable activities in the community, devoting most of his time to HomeAid Atlanta, an organization that builds dignified housing where homeless families and individuals can rebuild their lives.
