Portrait of a Pioneer
Tom Sharp, Sharp Residential

Tom Sharp, Sharp Residential. |
As president of Sharp Residential, Tom Sharp has over 15 years of home-building
experience in Atlanta. Recently, Sharp took the time to answer some questions posed by
Newcomer Magazine about his business and its place in the city's real estate market.
Why did you want to become a builder?
After earning my undergraduate degree and before entering law school, I accepted a
position with a national residential construction firm in Orlando, Florida. I really enjoyed
new home construction and was able to advance rapidly within the company.
What made you want to start your business in Atlanta?
In 1991, after relocating to Atlanta, I noticed the need for a customer-oriented
homebuilder in the area. With the knowledge I gained from my years of experience in
Orlando, I began building new homes in metro Atlanta and opened my own
company-Sharp Residential. My goal was to offer excellence and quality in each new
home.
What makes the Atlanta real estate market so exciting to you as a builder?
The opportunities are endless in Atlanta, and the growth is tremendous. As the new home
market continues to reach further beyond what was once considered Metro Atlanta, into
areas such as Cherokee, Paulding and Forsyth counties, new home builders are able to
offer quite a variety of products-from large master-planned communities to smaller,
more intimate, communities.
What unique qualities does Sharp Residential bring to potential homebuyers?
My homes feature classic architecture, are built with the best materials on the market
today, are up-to-date with all the new trends, and are built to last a lifetime. With a drive
to be a forerunner in the home market, I remain committed to each step of Sharp
Residential's homebuilding process. It is very important to b
uild homes for the way
people want to live. I feel that customers should always come first, and an emphasis
should be placed on the homebuyer's individual desires. My experienced team of builders
and support staff take pride in doing just that by designing with customized
characteristics that make each house special.
What services do you provide to meet the needs of relocating buyers?
We offer one-stop shopping for relocating buyers, along with great homes in great
neighborhoods. We also have our own design center and our own lender for added
convenience to the buying process.
What awards won by Sharp Residential are especially significant to you?
Sharp Residential has earned recognition on the Atlanta Business Chronicle's annual list
of the Top 25 Homebuilders in 2004, which is an honor because it reflects Sharp
Residential's entry into the Atlanta new home market on a much larger scale. We are also
ranked in the top 200 on Professional Builder magazine's list of the Top 400
Homebuilders in the country, an accomplishment I am quite proud of earning.
What are some of the new developments your company is working on now?
Right now, we are building in some very exciting master-planned communities such as
Harmony on the Lakes in Cherokee County. We are also building complete
neighborhoods such as Parkstone and Brandon Hall, both in Forsyth County. My main
concern is maintaining the beauty of the land while giving my customers a neighborhood
they would be proud to come home to, and a home they love to live in. We also are
building a townhome community within the City of Atlanta, Liberty Park, offering new
homes priced from the $200s, an uncommon range in the area.
